Ten-minute reading routine
Two minutes of letter sounds, five minutes of reading aloud together, three minutes retelling what happened. Same order every day so the child knows what is coming.

Ask one counting or comparison question during a normal meal. How many more? Which is bigger? Keep it verbal and low pressure.
Materials out, water nearby, phone away, one clear first task. Struggling learners rarely need more time — they need a cleaner start.
Name effort and strategy, not speed or being smart. 'You stuck with that hard word' builds far more than 'you're so quick.'
